Makerspace

A makerspace is a collaborative work space inside a school for creating, learning, exploring, building and sharing while using high tech to no tech tools. 

I.S. 145’s makerspace is open to all students, and faculty and has a variety of maker equipment including 3D printers, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, soldering irons, little bits, computers, iPads, chromebooks, drills, mobile woodshop and even sewing machines. But it also has a variety of art supplies, cardboard and whatever a builder would need. 

We want our students to have a mindset of creating something out of nothing and exploring one’s own interests that’s at the core of a makerspace.  This space is also helping to prepare those who need the critical 21st century skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).  It provides hands on learning, helps with critical thinking skills and even boosts self-confidence. Some of the skills that are learned in a makerspace pertain to electronics, 3d printing, 3D modeling, coding, robotics and even woodworking. We hope that our makerspace will also foster entrepreneurship within our students.
