Hello to all families in the IS 145 community.
On behalf of the PTA, this year’s President Humberto Muñoz and Secretary Kate Menken with great excitement welcome you all to the 2022-2023 School Year. As you start to navigate middle school, we are here as a resource of information and support. We look forward to promoting inclusion, engagement, and family empowerment.
This is your PTA. With things opening up, we envision the PTA to be much more active this year, while building off last year’s success. As a Parent Teacher Association (PTA), our mission is to support the school, the staff, and, most importantly, the students in our community. As we all know, “it takes a village to raise a child” and to do so, we encourage you all to consider volunteering at our events and participating in our in person meetings whether it be in person for those vaccinated as per DOE policy or remotely via Zoom. In addition to PTA meetings we will be hosting many other events as well as sponsoring activities within the school such as Coffee with the Principal, Trips, and Family events such as Game Nights, Sip and Paints, and much more. Please be on the lookout for invitations via our website.
As parents first and foremost Kate and I understand how helpful and comforting it can be to know and have access to other parents in the school that have made the elementary school to middle school transition. Here are some upcoming events, so please mark your calendars:
*The PTA Back to School Breakfast Meeting will be on Sept. 21 from 8:15-10 am. This will be an in person meeting with the possibility to participate by Zoom simultaneously. Coffee, tea, and a light breakfast will be served.
*The first Coffee with the Principal/Cafecito con el director will be Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 8:15-10 am. The topic of the first meeting is especially for families of children who are new to the school, and is titled “Special Programs at School & How to Get Your Child Signed Up.” The second one will be October 19th 8:15-10 am and is especially for 8th grade families, with the topic “How to Select a High School.” These meetups will be every month in person, with lots of different topics but you can always come just because you would like to talk to the principal about anything at all. Coffee, tea, and snacks will be served.
*Monthly PTA Meetings will be the third Wednesday of each month, from 5-7 pm (5-6 in English, and 6-7 in Spanish): 10/19, 11/16, 12/21, 1/18, 2/15, 3/22, 4/26, 5/24, 6/21.
*Please note that per NYCDOE policy you must be fully vaccinated to attend in person meetings inside the school building.
We also plan to host fun activities for parents at the school, starting with a Sip and Paint night so please be sure to check emails from the PTA!
If you’d like to get involved with the PTA, we are seeking volunteers for all of these activities and more (you can just do whatever you have time for or want to do) and we’re also going to hold an election for PTA treasurer. No previous experience necessary so please consider running for this position!
